ABSTRACT Objective::To study the change of BODE index in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by tiotropium bromide combined with exercise. Methods::80 COPD patients in their moderate and severe periods were randomly divided into two group (observation group with 40 cases and control group with 40 cases). The observation group received their inhaled tiotropium bromide combined with exercise and conventional treatment, and the control group received their conventional treatment. BODE indexes of the two groups were compared, and the results obtained were statistically analyzed .Results::6 months after : (1) BODE index score of the observation group was more significantly decreased than that of the control group , and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); (2) BODE index[6MWD (6 minutes walking distance), and lung function (FEV1%)] were improved more in the observation group after the treatment than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); (3) BODE index BMI (body mass index) and MMRC (dyspnea scale) improved in the two groups but there was no significant difference(P>0.05). Conclusion::Tiotropium bromide combined with exercise could significantly improve the moderate and severe stable COPD BODE index and prognosis.
