ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the clinical application of Metformin in patients of the hospital, analysing the problem in use of metformin, summarizing the irrational phenomenon of medication. And to promote the rational use of metformin and reduce the risk of clinical medication. Methods:The cases history with metformin in the hospital between January and December, 2014 were consulted, to retrospective analyze the indication, dosage, contraindication, adverse drug reaction, and drug interaction of metformin systematically. Results:The common clinical indications for metformin use were type 2 diabetes mellitus. The main consumption in dosage form of metformin was sustained release tablet, the rate was about 65.17%. The irrational use of metformin accounted for 38.87%, the biggest irrational phenomenon was the mistake of usage and dose 59.83%, existing contraindication was 39.3%, and without indication was 0.87%. The unreasonable usage and dosage of metformin was enteric-coated tablets were taken during or after a meal, the rate was 83.45%. The main contraindication of metformin was that metformin were still taken before or after the application of iodine contrast agent 47.47%. And the cases history of liver and renal insufficiency was about 21.21%. 6.98% of the patients happened adverse reaction, mainly including hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal reaction. Conclusion:At present, the clinical application of metformin was still deficient, we should actively carry out clinical pharmacy services of metformin, and to promote the rational use of metformin, reduce the risk of clinical medication. |
